Be Still
When I worry about my children, God calls for me to be still.
As sickness erodes the health and ultimately is to take the life of my love, God calls for me to be still.
When loneliness consumes and tasks are too hard to complete, God calls for me to be still.
Though the world seems to have lost its mind, God calls for me to be still.
When those in charge make decisions that remove all that is left of me, God calls for me to be still.
How can I be still?
Where is my hope? Have miracles ceased to exist?
These scenarios are reality to many throughout the world. Monumental issues are faced, and sanity is challenged at every turn. As Christians, what is the difference? No matter where we live, we face the same difficulties as our neighbors. What is the benefit to being a believer?
We can be still.
Seeking and growing in a personal relationship with God generates subtle but powerful miracles of revelation. God sends His Spirit to live within those who ask. Being close to God, He is able to open our eyes to see through His, by the power of the Holy Spirit. A greater picture, an eternal and unlimited view begins to take shape that problems of today can’t hamper.
When we know that God is God, I mean really know and believe that, we gain a front seat to witness Him at work. As we look to Him, talk with Him, place Him at the center of us, and include Him in all things, we grow to trust and worship Him more and more. In Him, we can be still.
Stillness comes from God.
Being united with God, His Holy Spirit living through us shares His qualities. Peace and stillness are of Him and present within us. When our trust in God and His will becomes strong, that quiet but unquestionable belief allows us to be still and know.
The Spirit within us comforts our worries, peace pushes out fear, and God’s will becomes a surety. Nothing is above God’s hand, and since we can’t be divided from Him, the hold of wickedness loses its grip.
God will be exalted in the earth.
Psalm 46:10 in the KJV Bible states, “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.” This is a statement of fact. God knows what He knows, and though we may not see such exaltation occurring, the truth of what God foresees has not changed.
How God leads others to praise Him is already known by Him. When all in the earth will revere Him is an appointed time in His will. Our responsibility to God is to keep our eyes on Him, the One in control. With a focus on Him, rather than all that might seem questionable, we can rest in a state of stillness and exalt Him for the God we know He is.
I praise You, Lord, regardless of worldly issues, because I love, trust, respect, and know You. I pray for those Christians who are struggling under life’s weight to turn their full attention to You so they can be still and know You.
God’s peace,
Rebecca
